Funnily enough not everyone wants to connect with me because they think I am going to critique their profile. I won’t (unless you ask me to!) but you should connect with me. So here is your personal invite to connect with me on LinkedIn and let me know it’s due to this blog post!
Just remember the more people you are connected to the more chance you will have of accessing key decision makers through their contacts. However, this approach is not applicable to everyone. When I worked with a director of an international company it became clear this was not the best policy; so maybe some of you may want to be a bit fussier.
For most this approach works really well. Let me explain – if I have 10 connections and each one of those connections has 100 connections I have access to 1000 people as my second-degree connections. Yes – seriously! So why is this so AMAZING? Well you know the company you would kill to work for? Who’s to say you don’t already have a connection?
Yet most people don’t see this; when I work with clients they think to themselves well why would I want to connect with my neighbour I see him each day and he doesn’t even work in the field I want to? Well, you may want to because of who he/she could be connected to, you simply don’t know!

Did you know you can connect with ANYONE if they belong to the same group as you? This means you can actually send a DIRECT message to that person regardless of whether you are already connected.
