This blog post may have rattled you a little, if it has, it’s done the job I wanted! Just before you hit me with a tirade of abuse, just listen for a second to what I am trying to say…

If I’m honest, I hesitated at first about writing this but I thought to myself, if it saves just one person from not having to keep on struggling to find that job, then it’s WORTH IT!

Job searching is NOT the easiest process to go through, particularly if it has been forced upon you, especially with such things as redundancy. I’m certainly not saying that you are at fault for being made redundant, life happens – I get that, things like this are not within your control.

However, you ARE in control of what happens next and if you are lucky enough to still be in a job but are on the lookout for the next great opportunity, this article is just as relevant to you.

I have now worked with a number of clients in different employment scenarios and I’ve learned a number of things…

Issue 1

One thing that I do find funny is that for all of the most important decisions in our lives, we seek out experts. If we are ill, we seek out a Doctor, if we’re selling our house we use an estate agent; yet when people are thinking about their career – something they are going to be doing for the rest of their lives, they leave it to chance.  The problem with not employing an expert is that you then have to learn by trial and error, and this TAKES TIME.

Issue 2

TIME is one thing that most of us are short on, and it is normally at this stage that people consult people like me. By this time, people have hit desperation stage and have started to lose hope, they are thinking “is there a job for me”?

At this point you not ONLY need to know the RIGHT way (which means being consistent and developing that GAME plan), but it’s also at this point that people can start losing their mojo. This is not good as this is when negative thoughts start to creep in which feed your subconscious, that evil voice saying “I’m too old to do this or do that” or “I’m not good enough”. Most often it’s none of the above, you have just stopped believing and you’ve been wasting your time trawling through website after website, trying to learn new tips and tricks to get that job; joining webinar after webinar to find the Holy Grail of answers. Hey, you may even have started paying for LinkedIn Premium just so that you can tick a box and feel that you’ve taken some kind of action…

  • You decided it had to be this way.
  • You decided you wanted to learn by trial an error.
  • You wanted the DIY option…

Surely you can see that the quicker you learn how to do this the RIGHT away, without trawling through site after site, you will be able to start earning what you’re worth?

You are already missing out on great opportunities (as someone else is making that investment) and you have to trust me on this, if you’re not prepared to invest in YOU, nobody else will….

Issue 3

So, I suppose my next questions are, “How long is it really going to take you to wake up and smell the coffee?”

“How long are you going to keep going before you decide that a little bit of real assistance may actually go a long way?” At what point will you seek some assistance if any?

  • 1 month
  • 2 months
  • 6 months or 1 year (and yes this does happen…)

Well, I’ll leave you to make your own minds up, however, I will leave you with the thought that Albert Einstein is widely credited with saying,

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”. –

Could this be you?
